About

Katie

Katie is an artist, educator, and counselor who is passionate about helping every child be successful in school and beyond.  As a classroom teacher for over 12 years, she dedicated her time and talents to helping students with learning difficulties find success through research-based academic practices while creating a positive and encouraging environment where students felt safe to learn.  After her youngest son was diagnosed with Dyslexia, and she witnessed the physical and emotional strain this placed on him, Katie began her own educational journey to find relief and healing for him and all the students she served.  Seeking to first understand how to intervene for reading difficulties that effect 1 in 5 people, Katie became trained as a Dyslexia Educator through both the Institute for Multisensory Education (IMSE) and the Schenck School (Atlanta, GA) and served as a Literacy Specialist for Fulton County Schools.  After recognizing learning disabilities can also trigger behavioral challenges in the classroom environment, she went on to become a Behavior Interventionist and is trained  to implement many evidence-based practices including STEPS A (DBT), Restorative Practices and is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).

Learning difficulties can wreak havoc in a child’s life and manifest in many ways.  ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and other processing issues can lead to executive function skill deficits and behavioral patterns that cause problems for children and families alike.  Often these issues are treated by different specialists who do not understand the link between academic deficits and behavioral patterns nor how to integrate interventions to create health and healing for the whole child.

In 2017 Katie began her private coaching practice to help children, and their families, eliminate academic gaps while also using evidence-based interventions to bring relief for anxiety, depression, emotional outbursts, and school refusal issues that often accompany learning struggles.  Katie is passionate about this integrated model for academic and behavioral coaching because she has seen the healing it has brought to so many children and their families.

If your child is struggling to get and stay organized, focus on tasks, read and write on grade level and/or has anxiety related to school performance, Katie is ready to help your child find success in school and beyond!
